Indiana HoosierRx Prescription Assistance
HoosierRx helps older Indiana residents pay the monthly premium on a Medicare Part D drug plan. It only works with plans from certain companies.
HoosierRx pays up to $70 a month toward your Medicare Part D premium. You must live in Indiana, be 65 or older, have income under 150% of the federal poverty level, and have a Part D plan from one of five listed companies.
What HoosierRx Pays
HoosierRx is run by Indiana Medicaid. It does one thing: it pays toward the monthly premium of your Medicare Part D drug plan, up to $70 a month. Over a full year that is up to $840.
It does not pay copays or deductibles at the pharmacy. For help with those, look at the federal Extra Help program, which lowers Part D premiums and copays together.
Who Qualifies
You must meet all four conditions.
- You are an Indiana resident.
- You are 65 or older.
- Your yearly income is under 150% of the federal poverty level. The first $20 of income each month is not counted.
- Your Medicare Part D plan is from one of the companies in the list below.
The Income Limit in Dollars
Indiana states the limit as a percentage and does not print dollar amounts on its page. Using the 2026 federal poverty guidelines, 150% works out as follows. This is our calculation, so confirm the figure with HoosierRx.

Because the first $20 a month is disregarded, someone a few dollars over these figures may still qualify.
Your Part D Plan Must Be From a Listed Company
This is the condition people miss. HoosierRx only pays toward plans from these companies:
- AARP / UnitedHealthcare
- Cigna
- Elixir / EnvisionRx
- Aetna / SilverScript
- WellCare
If your plan is from another company, HoosierRx will not pay toward it. Most people can change Part D plans during Medicare open enrollment, from October 15 to December 7, for coverage that starts in January. Before you switch for the sake of HoosierRx, check that the new plan covers your medicines. A plan that saves $70 a month on the premium can cost more overall if it does not cover a drug you take.
